Temporary Assistance To Needy Families/ChoicesThe TANF/Choices (Temporary Assistance to Needy Famlies) Program is designed to assist Texas Department of Human Services (TDHS) TANF certified recipients attain self-sufficiency by exposing them to the local job market as soon as possible, and to provide these recipients with the needed support services such as child care and transportation allowances to facilitate the employment entry process. The Middle Rio Grande Workforce Board (MRGWFB) inherited three full-service Choices counties (Maverick, Uvalde and Val Verde) from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on September 1, 1998. Since then, the MRGWFB has expanded the program to include Dimmit, LaSalle and Zavala Counties. At present, MRGWFB staff is analyzing TANF population data in some of the minimum service counties (Edwards, Kinney, and Real) with the thought of expanding the full service designation to these counties to assure TANF recipients with the necessary assistance in gaining and keeping employment.
